Kurtis Biggs, D.O. is the founder of the Joint Replacement Institute of Florida. He is a board certified, fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon who focuses primarily on hip and knee replacements. He serves as a national instructor on hip and knee replacement and is an advisor on replacement technology development for ConforMis and Corin USA. Dr. Biggs has performed more than 1,200 direct anterior hip procedures and the highest volume of ConforMis-specific knee replacements in Southwest Florida. He was the first surgeon at Seaside Surgery Center to perform same-day outpatient knee replacement surgery.     Steven S. Goldberg, M.D. is a board certified orthopedic surgeon and is the Chief of the Division of Orthopedic Surgery at Physicians Regional Healthcare System in Naples. Dr. Goldberg completed a fellowship in Shoulder Surgery and Sports Medicine at Columbia University in New York City. Founded by Dr. Charles Neer, known as the “father of modern shoulder surgery,” this is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious shoulder fellowship.

    Dr. Goldberg is skilled in the most advanced, minimally invasive treatments of orthopedic problems. Dr. Goldberg came to Naples in 2005 as a physician at Cleveland Clinic Florida. He is the lead author on several research articles including publication in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, the leading journal in the orthopedic field. He has served as team physician at Senior PGA golf tournaments in Naples, where he treated the professional golfers at the tournament.

    Brian Wallace, D.O. has worked extensively with athletes at the high school, college, and professional level including Kings Mills High School, Wittenberg University, and the Cincinnati Reds major league baseball team, along with other local high schools and colleges in the Cincinnati area.

    His interests in orthopedics include the arthroscopic treatment of the shoulder, elbow and knee as well as general orthopedic care. He also has extensive training in joint reconstruction and fracture care.

    As a former high school and college athlete, board-certified surgeon Christopher J. Calcagni, D.P.M., is passionate about sports medicine as it pertains to foot and ankle health. He was a standout football player in Ohio and he went on to play for Oklahoma State University from 1999 to 2002.

    After graduating from Oklahoma State, he returned to Ohio and graduated from Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine in 2006. Dr. Calcagni completed his residency training in 2009 at Western Reserve Care Systems, where he served as chief resident for one of the top three-year foot and ankle residency programs in Ohio. He has since been providing foot and ankle care to athletes of all ages.

    Specializing in minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery, Dr. Calcagni has taken courses from the AO Institute, Wright Medical, and Arthrex. He also has special interests in wound care and diabetic limb salvage, with advanced training in hyperbaric medicine. In addition, Dr. Calcagni has a strong personal and professional interest in nutrition and often advises his patients how to incorporate healthy eating and supplements into their lives.

    Carmella Fernandez, MD, MBA, comes to Seaside from an educational track at several prestigious institutions, earning honors and accolades along the way. Fernandez received a full athletic scholarship to the University of Illinois, competing on the women’s gymnastics team, serving as its captain in her junior year. Graduating from Illinois, where she was repeatedly named to the Dean’s List, Fernandez enter the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School at Rutgers University in Camden, NJ. While at Rutgers, she also earned her MBA. Having established her private practice, Dr. Fernandez looks forward to continuing her legacy of community volunteerism, actively participating in orthopaedic research projects, and adding to her compendium of publications.
