Congressman to visit Seaside

UPDATE AUGUST 10, 2021: CONGRESSMAN DONALDS’ VISIT HAS BEEN POSTPONED

This message from his staff:

“Our home office has decided to postpone all congressional visits both in-person and virtual during this time due to unprecedented schedules from the uptick in COVID-19 cases. We will need to postpone Congressman Donalds’ visit to Seaside Surgery Center scheduled for August 24th.”

NAPLES, Fla. (August 9, 2021) — U.S. Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) is scheduled to visit Seaside Surgery Center August 24, 2021 where he will tour the facility, speak with co-founders Dr. Robert J. Zehr and Dr. H. Kurtis Biggs, and have the opportunity to try his hand at endoscopic surgery.

Congressman Donalds, who represents Southwest Florida District 19, was invited to tour Seaside as part of Tenet Healthcare’s annual advocacy program whereby Members of Congress are invited to tour ASCs in their districts. United Surgical Partners International (USPI), a Seaside majority partner, is a subsidiary of Tenet Healthcare. USPI’s Market President Collin LeMaistre recommended Seaside for the honor.

While at Seaside, Congressman Donalds will meet the staff on duty, take a look at the surgical preparatory and recovery rooms and, potentially, suit up for a visit to the two spacious ORs. In the operating rooms, he will be treated to demonstrations of the center’s specialized equipment that allows its surgeons to perform same-day outpatient joint replacement surgery. There he can test his own “surgical” skills by maneuvering delicate endoscopic instruments in a quest to remove a peanut embedded in a red pepper. The hands-on exercise was a popular experience at Seaside’s public open house just five years ago. Since opening, Seaside physicians have completed almost 10,000 cases, the majority of which have been the orthopaedic cases for which the center was designed. Pain management and podiatry procedures account for the remainder of the caseload.

Congressman Donalds’ committee assignments include: the Oversight and Reform, Budget, and Small Business committees. He was recently appointed to the Select Committee on Economic Disparity and Fairness in Growth. When not actively serving in the nation’s capital, Congressman Donalds resides in Naples with his wife and three sons.
